The Payroll Manager oversees payroll processing, procedures, and ensures that employees are paid correctly and timely in a fast-paced environment. The Payroll Manager is knowledgeable of payroll regulations, software, and has excellent organizational and leadership skills, and is an important member of the HYLAN management team. This position is in the Holmdel, NJ office and reports directly to the CFO of HYLAN.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the daily workflow of the Payroll department including processing, compliance, and management.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written communications.
• Expertise in payroll process and procedures for New York union populations; ensure company obligations are met as per the collective bargaining agreements regarding employee pay and employee benefit payments.
• Multistate taxation and familiarization with labor laws; monitor and adhere to tax legislation for accurate reporting and correct filing procedures with our external tax filing partner.
• Certified payroll experience.
• Must have a history of accuracy in a fast-paced environment; strong attention to detail with the ability to see how the details affect payroll and the impact on the Company.
• A critical thinker that raises vital questions, anticipates possible problems, and gathers relevant information for resolution.
• Demonstrate strong project management skills with an ability to lead complex payroll projects from conception through successful execution.
• Regularly evaluate existing procedures for opportunities for refinement and streamlining.
• Guide the Payroll team to achieve consistent growth and improvement by offering a balanced blend of coaching, cross training and access to vendor and other outside training.
• Foster strong working relationships with all HYLAN Regions to deliver on all payroll initiatives; provide support and guidance to non-payroll team members in other Regions who enter payroll hours.
• Audit experience, responsible for union and WC audits, working with outside professionals in various related fields.
• Continuous learner who stays informed on payroll related laws, regulations, and best practices.
• This is an in-office position with occasional regional travel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Must have a bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field.
• Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now is required.
• 5+ years of experience working for a construction company processing union payroll is required.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience supporting a multistate workforce population of 500+ employees.
• Must have intermediate Excel skills.
• Sage experience a plus.
