Job description

The Senior OSP Fiber Designer NYC is responsible for all engineering deliverables required to meet the goals and expectations for two major clients. This position is the proactive lead that drives the work for all internal field operations. The Senior OSP Fiber Designer NYC reports directly to the Senior Director of Engineering Operations and is located in Hylan’s corporate office in Holmdel, NJ.

Responsibilities

  • Sales for engineering and construction; working with clients forecasting future jobs.
  • Estimating engineering jobs.
  • Point of contact for clients, field operations and executive management.
  • Daily communication/coordination of jobs for clients, internal field operations, account and project managers.
  • Works closely with all internal construction field operations.
  • Tracking of all job statuses, which requires thorough follow-up, and provides updates to clients as needed.
  • Resolves issues, forwards reroutes, and handles client change orders and as-builts.
  • Responsible for invoicing clients for work completed, placing monetary value on daily reports, and tracking accruals for next month’s billing.
  • Required to attend biweekly in-person client meetings, and weekly company meetings (construction and project manager) held in the company corporate office.
  • Responsible for fiber splice packages/designs, and maintaining job schedules.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience working within telecommunications, OSP or fielding operations of a fiber optic network and splicing matrix, OSP construction experience is a plus.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Diploma or degree from a recognized program, post-secondary institution is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.

The Construction Estimator will utilize his/her expertise to help secure work with current and new clients. S/He will deliver contract proposal estimates, post-award purchase orders and subcontracts on a wide variety of underground utility construction projects, which include underground electrical, telecommunications, and sewer/water.

The Training Manager DAS Installations is responsible for training field employees on DAS installations and improving the field employee’s productivity and safety. This position is located in the Long Island City, NY and Staten Island, NY locations. The Training Manager DAS installations will train field supervisors and union labor. The Training Manager DAS installations will travel to various locations to ensure field supervisors are training field staff correctly, quality control of installations, meeting customer demands and ensuring company policies and safety procedures are being followed.

  1. Conducts training of field supervisors and union employees as required.

The Fleet Manager is responsible for leading a team of Technicians and Mechanics in a preventative maintenance and repair program for all heavy fleet trucks to ensure a safe and efficient fleet. Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 8 to 10 years of project management experience in Underground Utility construction markets, including gas pipeline, underground electrical/civil, telecommunications and sewer/water
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or relevant discipline
  • Ability and willingness to travel for out-of-town project assignments as needed (projects are located throughout the Midwest and Florida and may take up to 18-24 months, with travel home every other weekend)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy of information
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel; estimating and scheduling software skills preferred

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage the creation of  complete stand-alone construction drawings for aerial, buried, manhole and conduit systems,
  • Prepare and manage the submittal of permit applications to multiple municipalities and utilities,
  • Perform Pole Loading Analysis and prepare Pole Attachment and Make Ready documentation,
  • Review engineering drawing and designs to ensure accuracy and adherence to established specifications and standards,
  • Prepare appropriate documentation for project management,
  • Interface with client and municipalities on behalf of the client to ensure smooth progression of the project
  • Prepare cost estimates, proposals, and project budgets.
  • Collect field data for design of construction drawings including the preparation of field notes, sketches, and recorded measurements of all exiting utilities, structures, roadways and construction obstacles.
  • Must have knowledge of aerial, buried, underground and building entrance design for Telecom
  • Must be able to read and understand highway/road prints, be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, and select routing required for projects.
  • May be required to provide on-site construction inspection to insure design specifications are met by the construction contractor. Further duties will include but are not limited to: redlines, bore design, CAD, and make-ready analysis, field notes, pole survey, conduit systems, locating, QC prints, butterfly drawings, and preparation of prints.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver license with clean driving record
  • A two-year degree in engineering or drafting technology,
  • A minimum of 2 years in telecommunications design,
